GH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION MAKES GRANT FOR PRESCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

At its June meeting, the Board of Directors of the Grand Haven Schools Foundation voted to grant $65,000 to the Grand Haven Preschool Development Program for preschool scholarships for the 2016‐2017 school year. The Board granted an additional $12,000 for professional development, curriculum enhancement, and materials to meet the individual needs of students and $2,500 to create a lending library for the Preschool Language Enrichment Program.

The Grand Haven Preschool Development Program is part of Grand Haven Area Public Schools. This tuition‐based program is available to Tri‐Cities children who are 2 ½ to 5 years of age. The program emphasizes cognitive and social‐emotional development through play and exploration and helps to ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten.

In the 2015‐16 school year, the Grand Haven Schools Foundation awarded 70 preschool scholarships to children who attended this program. The foundation is dedicated to ensuring that all children, regardless of economic background, are afforded early learning opportunities.
